UCHI Dallas
December 7th, 2020
Hello friends!
Raw sushi scares me. It always has. The risk of getting food poisoning made me wary of eating anything uncooked. Eating the same rolls over and over again made me grow tired of sushi. However, my dad recommended this hip new sushi joint in Downtown Dallas that guarantees the best sushi you’ve ever had.
So, when we arrived at the brick laid building, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The hostess led us to our outdoor table on their wonderful patio. Cute string lights and heaters make the ambiance nice and relaxing.
As the waiter explained some of the specials, the man at the table next to us appeared to be having a religious experience. He was zoned out while eating one of his rolls. I thought if their sushi could be that good, then maybe it was worth stepping out of my comfort zone.
I ordered the zen sushi roll and the wagyu tartar roll. The roll contains yellowfin tuna and avocado and cilantro. It was very refreshing and absolutely delicious!
I’ve never had tartar before so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. It was covered in some crispy tempura shavings and they brought it out with a ponzu sauce. It was soft, but there was a nice crunch. Plus, the ponzu sauce complimented it perfectly.
My dad and I shared a hot rock with wagyu beef as well as a serving of the pork rib. Both of which were done to perfection! It is so fun to cook your own food on a hot rock. The slim cuts of wagyu beef are tender and salted to perfection. The pork rib fell off the bone with any effort and practically melts in your mouth.
And of course, you can't leave without trying dessert. We went for the sorbet because the flavors sounded amazing. There was passion fruit, coconut cardamom, lychee, and chocolate. The chocolate was rich and creamy whereas the passion fruit was a little more icy and sweet. My favorite however was the coconut cardamom because the cardamom gave the coconut a coffee taste.
Overall, the service was phenomenal and the ambiance is unbeatable. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice and safe night out during quarantine.
Always Busy,
Sam
